The colorful monthly flea market is a must. It attrackets hords of visitors and draws
exhibitors from all over South Africa. Large varieties of items including home-baked
produce, handmade articles, jewellery, art and crafts are on display and may be purchased at
reasonable prices.
The culturally inclined visitor is catered for by means of regular musical, drama and
other productions, staged at the Ernest Oppenheimer Theatre, named after the city's founder.
The theatre with its splendid acoustics contains contains tiered Austrian crystal chandeliers.The tapestries designed by Cecil Skotnes and Eleanor Esmonde White, were hand woven in France.

No visit to Welkom is completed without an excursion to one of the gold mines in the area. The Welkom Publicity Association arranges scheduled underground tours, during which a goldpour may be witnessed.
